How is a mast climbing platform used?
In aerial work scenarios such as workshop maintenance, warehouse stocking, and municipal facility inspection, mast lifts have become a practical aerial work helper for many people and enterprises by virtue of their advantages of lightweight flexibility and simple operation. Different from the complex structures of articulated boom lifts and telescopic boom lifts, mast lifts are mainly designed for mid-to-low height operations and are extremely quick to get the hang of.
Ⅰ. Operating Procedures for Mast Lifts
Mast lifts are divided into electric mast lifts and manual mast lifts. Among them, electric mast lifts (powered by batteries) are the most common type, and their operating procedures are largely similar.
- Pre-operation Preparation
First of all, conduct a site inspection: confirm whether the working ground is flat and hardened, free of accumulated water, oil stains and obstacles. A safe space shall be reserved around to avoid collisions. If working outdoors, observe the weather conditions; operation is prohibited in severe weather such as strong winds and rainstorms.
Secondly, perform an equipment inspection: check the battery power first to ensure it is sufficient. Then inspect the mast for integrity, free of deformation or loosening; hydraulic pipelines shall be free of leakage. In addition, test whether the braking system, lifting buttons and emergency stop switch are sensitive, and check if the platform guardrails and door locks are intact.
Finally, make personnel preparations: operators must wear safety helmets and non-slip shoes during operation; slippers or high heels are prohibited. Tools shall be placed inside the platform, avoiding stacking them too high or too heavy. The total load should preferably not exceed the rated load capacity of the lift.
- In-operation Operation
When opening the platform door, the operator shall enter the platform, close the door tightly and fasten the safety lock, then stand firmly and hold on to the handrail. Tools shall be placed neatly to avoid interfering with operation.
When turning on the power switch, confirm that there is no fault prompt on the control panel. Press the lift button slowly, and the mast will rise steadily. During the lifting process, observe the surrounding environment to avoid collision with ceilings or equipment. When the platform reaches the designated height, release the button and the lift will lock the position automatically.
If it is necessary to adjust the working position, lower the mast to the lowest height first, then activate the travel button (electric mast lifts can turn in place and move slowly). Move to the designated position and then lift the platform for operation. Important reminder: Do not move the lift while it is at height to prevent the lift from tipping over due to loss of balance.
In case of malfunctions during operation, such as lifting jamming, power cut or outage, do not panic. Press the emergency stop switch immediately. If a power cut occurs, use the manual lowering device to slowly lower the platform to the ground, then contact professional personnel for maintenance. Do not disassemble the equipment without authorization.
- Post-operation Shutdown Work
After completing the operation, tidy up the tools first, press the lower button slowly and land safely. Fully retract the mast and lower the platform to the ground.
Turn off the power switch and unplug the power cord. Recharge electric mast lifts in a timely manner to avoid battery over-discharge. Park the lift in a flat and dry area, away from fire sources and heavy objects, and take dust-proof measures.
Clean up debris inside the platform. Inspect the mast and hydraulic pipelines for abnormalities in a timely manner. If leakage or other problems are found, record them promptly and report for repair.

Ⅱ. Key Points for Using Mast Lifts
The top priority in aerial work is safety first. Although mast lifts are easy to operate, operators must comply with the following regulations:
Overloading is prohibited: Every mast lift has a rated load capacity; never exceed this limit when carrying personnel and tools, to prevent the lift from losing balance and tipping over.
Do not use on uneven ground: Operation is prohibited on soft ground, slopes or uneven surfaces. If the ground is slightly uneven, use padding plates to level it and ensure the stability of the lift.
Regular maintenance is required: Replace worn parts in a timely manner to extend the service life of the equipment.
Operator training is mandatory: Even though the operation is simple, operators must receive training to understand the performance and safety specifications of the lift before taking up the post.
Conclusion
Mast lifts are the ideal and cost-effective choice for mid-to-low height aerial work. As long as the right scenarios are selected, operation is carried out in accordance with specifications, and safety protection measures are properly implemented, aerial work tasks can be completed efficiently.
